With
another difficult section to teach today, I was up very late again last night.
The lack of sleep is starting to catch up with me, so I hope to get more sleep
tonight. We were able to start exactly on time again today, as all students
were ready to go. We begin each day with about 15 minutes for prayer before we
start our studies.
Our
study began with Romans 8 this morning and it took the entire time until noon
for us to finish that chapter. We discussed at length how in this chapter the
Spirit and Christ are both said to dwell in us. Neither dwells in us by in a
literal, bodily fashion, but do so through medium or manner – instruction,
disposition or
character. We also dealt with the Spirit’s intercession and
other points of some difficulty. We ended with the section of exhortation at
the conclusion of the chapter.
The
afternoon session started with Romans 9 and we went through Romans 10. We dealt
with God’s actions towards Israel in the work and place He gave them. We
noticed that the Calvinists take this chapter totally out of context when they
claim that it affirms an arbitrary choice of God with respect those predestined
to eternal salvation and condemnation. The text has nothing to do with God
making an arbitrary choice to save one and condemn another. We went on to see how
God dealt with Israel in longsuffering before ending the old law and how He continued
to offer both Jew and Gentile access to grace through salvation by faith in
Christ.
We have
secured a flight back to Manila from Tuguegarao the day after the one
originally scheduled. So, the Lord willing, Chip and I will return to Manila on
Wednesday, November 18. This will allow both of us to fulfill our travel plans
and commitments. Now, I have to make changes to our hotel reservations in
Manila and hope they will not cancel the whole thing!
Thanks
again for your interest in this work. Please keep us in your prayers.
